Mass Communication Department Starts Unbundling

The Mass Communication Department of Covenant University has commenced the unbundling of the mass communication program. This is following the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Four years ago, the commission, in conjunction with the United Nations, organized a series of conferences, trainings, and workshops to determine how the omnibus Mass Communication would be split into different disciplines.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the commission announced the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, CCMAS, saying that Mass Communication has been split into eight different disciplines namely Journalism and Media Studies, Broadcasting, Advertising, Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Development Communication Studies, Strategic Communication, Film and Multimedia, Information and Media Studies, and Mass Communication. In the case of mass communication, the discipline was massively scaled down and it is nothing compared to the omnibus one from where it was extracted. The Mass Communication Department inaugurated the unbundled regime with the shortened version of mass communication.
