Covenant University has convoked a total of 1, 379 persons for graduation in the 18th edition of the Release of Eagles held on its campus on September 29, 2023. The College of Leadership and Development Studies (CLDS) has 15 Masters and eight PhDs, the College of Management and Social Sciences (CMSS) has 34 Masters and 15 PhDs, the College of Engineering (COE), has 27 Masters and 13 PhDs while the College of Science and Technology (CST) had 71 Masters and 21 PhDs.
In the case of undergraduates, CLDS had 157 out of which 21 had a first class, 87 21, 47 22, and 2 3rd. CMSS had 59, 198, 60, and 6 respectively. COE had a whopping 129, 200, 48, and 9 while CST had 74, 171, 59, and 5 respectively. The best students in this year’s graduation are CLDS Oluwatoyin AKinjiola of International Relations with a CGPA of 4.88, CMSS Teniola Morinsola of Accounting with the CGPA of 4.90, COE Nelson Elijah Ifechukwu of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with 4.90, and CST Sogunle Rosemary of Computer Science with the CGPA of 4.97.
The Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Board of Regents, Dr. David Oyedepo reiterated the promotion of the man-child model of education, which means making men out of children, stirring accelerated maturity intellectually and spiritually through custom-built programs. He stressed that the highflying success of the graduates emerged from the foundation of the institution’s core values of spirituality, integrity, possibility mentality, capacity building, responsibility, diligence, and sacrifice.
The Pro-chancellor, Bishop David Abioye congratulated the graduating class, their parents and guardians as well as the family members present at the occasion and admonished them on a few things. He advised the graduates to start small in life and rise through the ranks to be successful in life. “While your brain is allowed to think great, and your mouth to talk great, starting small is non-negotiable,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo said the university’s mission is to transform students into expert thinkers, innovative managers, and resourceful technocrats in all fields of learning, thereby restoring relevance to university education in Africa. He had the opportune time to reel out the accomplishments of the university in the past year which include the emergence of the university as the first in Nigeria, first in West Africa, and seventh in Africa in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Sub-Saharan rankings. “Also, in 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World Universities Rankings, … Covenant ranked top 800 globally out of over 21, 000 universities ranked.”
